Why a Regular Dental Check Up is Important

by | Feb 6, 2020 | Resources

The reason is simple; it will help keep your teeth and gums healthy. We want to check your mouth for early signs of holes, gum disease and other conditions that could affect your oral health and lead to costly dental bills in the future.

A check up and clean is actually more complex than it sounds. We don’t just look at your teeth; we conduct a thorough assessment of your entire mouth and oral health. We start by discussing your past and current level of wellbeing. If needed, we will give you strategies to minimise the impact that common conditions and medications can have on your teeth. We then look at your entire mouth including your lips, tongue, saliva, gums and lastly, your teeth. This lets us ensure your entire mouth is healthy and identify any changes that need to be monitored or treated. If you have fillings or crowns, this is the time we make sure they are still strong and aren’t leaking or in need of replacement. At this point we often take x-rays to see between your teeth and under old fillings for signs of decay. Once everything is checked, if needed, a treatment plan is created and discussed with you.

Lastly, we give your teeth a good clean removing any build up that could lead to holes or infections of the teeth, gums or tissues and then strengthen and protect your teeth with fluoride gel.

If it’s been more than 6 months since last your last check up and clean, the team at Beaches Dental Mona Vale is here to help!
